HiMountain winter expedition to Broad Peak – 2008/09 part 2.

HiMountain winter expedition to Broad Peak led by Artur Hajzer , the team : Robert Szymczak and Don Bowie from Canada.

The team has two high altitude porters; one is Qudrat Ali, Simone Moro’s climbing partner on Broad Peak in winter 2007/08.

Dust, the smell of exhaust, and smoke emerging from almost every house in Skardu, forced us to go out into the mountains.

We have left the small city for 3 days of exploration in the nearby hills, with the aim of acclimatization. In two days we hope to fly to the altitude of 4700m, so acclimatization is needed.

We have spent a night at 4000m and climbed till 4200m. Apart from initial acclimatization, there was also another advantage of our trek- getting to know each other.

During our climb we have started to be one team, which is extremely important during the next one, two, or three months.

Broad Peak — pierwsze wypady aklimatyzacyjne.

Wszechogarniający kurz, zapach spalin oraz dym unoszący się z każdego domostwa w Skardu wygonił nas w góry.

Wyruszyliśmy na 3-dniową eksplorację okolicznych wzgórz, celem zaaklimatyzowania się do wysokości 4700 m, na którą mamy nadzieję wlecieć helikopterem pojutrze.

Spędziliśmy noc na 4000 m i posuwaliśmy się w mikstowym terenie do 4200 m. Oprócz wstępnej aklimatyzacji, drugim plusem wyjścia za miasto była możliwość lepszego poznania się podczas wspinaczki.
